Remnith is a futuristic sci-fi shooter with VR capability. Battle against hordes of rampaging robots with a laser in tight arena-style levels.
Robots gone mad
Remnith puts a unique twist on the shooter genre by placing a strategic importance on accuracy. Each energy blast which misses its robotic target will instead be absorbed by your foe, making them stronger and more deadly. Instead of spraying shots around and hoping for the best, this absorption slows down gameplay and requires much more planning than in similar games. The game is clearly designed with VR first and so level size and graphical quality are noticeably reduced, making the slower gameplay a necessity. Remnith has an almost retro sci-fi graphical style with industrial levels covered in neon lighting, cramped corridors leading to small rooms. Although thematically interesting, the action can often feel cramped and might work better with more room to move around in. Despite these issues, the game has some original ideas and brings a desperately needed new title to various VR systems.
Rising to the challenge
Remnith is something of a mixed bag. The core gameplay mechanics fit in well with the setting and offer a decently challenging experience but numerous problems stop it from becoming a great game.
